Review of Beads, boys and Bangles

Title: Beads, boys and bangles
Author: Sophia Bennett
Series: Threads book 2

Blurb:

Crow is in designer heaven; Nonie's caught the eye of a gorgeous boy; Jenny has a new play.

But poor Edie's in trouble... it's rumoured that slave children in India have been making their high street collection.

It's up to the girls to save their fashion dream!

My Review:

This is the second book in the threads series and I read the first one and wanted to know what would happen next. I wasn't desperate to read this book but I was glad to get a copy.

As soon as I started reading this I was back with the girls (Nonie, Crow, Jenny and Edie)! Let's back up a bit, Edie runs an ethical blog and then someone starts to spread a rumour that Crow's clothes are being made by slave children in India.

So... the girls manage to get a trip to India to see the factories where Crow's clothes are made. Everything seems fine but when journeying in India they meet 3 children.

That's all I'm gonna tell you! How mean am I?! Overall, I did enjoy this book. I would say that if youre not into fashion then this might not be for you but as I am slightly fashion conscious I really enjoyed it!

Review of Witch Twins

Title: Witch Twins
Author: Adele Griffin

Blurb:

Claire and Luna may be witches, but there’s no easy spell to stop a wedding!
Though identical on the outside, ten-year-old twins Claire and Luna Bundkin are as different on the inside as peaches and peanut butter. Claire is mischievous and Luna is a dreamer, but they do share a favorite hobby: witchcraft. Whether it’s making breakfast or washing dishes, there’s nothing a five-star witch can’t accomplish with a wave of her pinkie finger. But there are two strict rules: Don’t tell Mom, and don’t try any spells without Grandy—their magical grandmother—watching. When Claire and Luna’s father announces that he’s getting remarried to a loudmouthed Texas woman named Fluffy, the twins know they need to do something to stop the wedding. Fluffy wouldn’t be a bad stepmother, but Claire and Luna know that she would lure their father to far-away Houston. A spell might be the only way to save their Dad, and they’ll try anything. Even if magic usually lands them in a pot of trouble. This ebook features a personal history by Adele Griffin including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s own collection.

My Review:

Ten year olds Claire and Luna are identical twins, but not just any normal twins they are witches! Their grandmother is a 5 star witch yet they don't have any stars.

When the twins find out that their father is marrying a women called Fluffy (yes I know). The girls believe that she's trying to get their father to move to Texas. So (naturally) they decide to ruin the wedding , with a little help from some magic.

This is a charming little story that I really enjoyed and will recommend to younger children. It's light-hearted and I really enjoyed it! It's a great little read!

Review of Samphire Song

Title: Samphire Song
Author: Jill Hucklesby

Blurb:

When fourteen-year-old Jodie buys a wild horse at auction, she has no idea what she is taking on. Something has drawn her to Samphire--there's an instant bond between them. She recognizes he's a damaged horse who needs time to mend. Jodie understands all about pain, having lost her dad two years before.

Slowly, she gains Samphire's trust, and Jodie begins to blossom with a new confidence. But when her younger brother Ed becomes very ill and needs an operation, Jodie is faced with the biggest decision of her life.

In order to help her mother and brother, she must let Samphire go. She makes him a promise--as soon as she can, she will find him and bring him home. It's a promise that leads her into danger. But somewhere, Samphire is calling to her. She senses his life is at risk and there's not much time. She must rescue him, whatever the cost.

(Blurb taken from goodreads)

My Review:

The story starts off with Jodie's life involving horses up until the point when the story really gets going. This is when she receives money from her mother to spend on what she likes, which is of course a horse!
Jodie goes to a auction looking for a lovely, sweet pony but, obviously, is attracted to the wild pony going berserk in his stall. She then decides to call it Samphire.

Jodie plans to enter him  into a big cross country race. I thought that this was going to be really predictable and is obviously going to win.

But the book had a surprising twist. Her younger brother has kidney failure and is rushed to hospital. Samphire needs to be sold as his expenses become too much. I did not expect this to happen at all!

This book was not what I expected and was completely unpredictable and I really enjoyed it! I would definitely recommend!

Review of No Ordinary Excuse

Name: No Ordinary Excuse
Author: Michelle Adams

Blurb:

‘I put on my imaginary thinking cap. Mine is a hot pink, domed helmet with purple lightning bolts on the sides. It pulls down from a long spring coil above my bed… So with my cap in place, I started thinking of possible homework excuses. Maybe I could tell Miss Haven that I’d spent the last two weeks under alien hypnosis and they’d erased any memory of a school project…’

Meet twelve year old Gemma Martin. She wants to be an actress, but school is getting in the way. Gemma has used all of the usual excuses to avoid her homework, but this time she’s facing serious consequences and must rely on her vivid imagination to create the most extraordinary homework excuse ever. Initially, Gemma’s stolen project story skyrockets her popularity, but it isn’t long before things start to spiral out of control and Gemma is headed for disaster. No Ordinary Excuse is the story of how our biggest mistakes are often our greatest teachers.

(Blurb taken from Goodreads)

My Review:

Gemma  hates doing her homework, so when she puts off a project that will affect her school level/grade, she comes up with a grand plan to get more time. What is this plan? Her project has been stolen! Her plan involves her auntie who is touring Australia at the time taking pictures of the stolen project to prove Gemma's lie. It all appears to be going smoothly until Gemma's teacher refuses to accept her project. And then Gemma's school rival tells the lie. Will Gemma be able to put things right or will she end up in detention forever?

I would recommend this book and it's a great easy read!

Michelle Madow was inspired to write Remembrance after seeing Taylor Swift's "Love Story" music video while a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The song and video gave her the story idea about a high school girl reincarnated from Regency Era, England. She handed in the first chapter as a homework assignment for class, and when her teacher and classmates wanted her to continue writing, she decided to go for it. By the end of the school year, her first novel was completed!

Review of The Hunger Games

Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Series: The Hunger Games Trilogy

Blurb:

MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR

When sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

My Review:

OMG! Words cannot describe how much I LOVE this book! I was gripped from the very beginning. The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't pick the book up sooner. I devoured every page of it. Loved every word of it! I have nothing but praise for this book!

I was constantly in suspense and would never have guessed what would've happened next. I'm not going to summarise the plot because I don't want to give anything away and I think that you should all read this book to find out what happens!

I have ordered book 2 and it is on its way so I'm sure a review will be up here as soon as I've read it!! I now need to see the Hunger Games film!! (Did You Know: that Catching Fire is going to be made into a film aswell)?! Happy Times!

Anyway, I am in love with this book - read it and you won't regret it!

It is now one of my favourite books (and that takes some beating)!

Review of A Sea of Stars

Title: A Sea of Stars
Author: Kate Maryon

Blurb:
Maya wishes she could go surfing and hang out with her friends on the beach, but as an only child, her parents are pretty overprotective - especially Mum.

Cat has the freedom to do what she likes - her mum can barely look after herself, let alone her daughter...

Now Maya's family are adopting Cat and the girls' lives suddenly collide. As tensions rise and secrets surface, can they ever be firends, let alone sisters?

My Review:
I've had this book sitting on my shelf for a while now and I really regret not picking it up sooner.

I LOVED this book!! The story follows Cat and Maya. Cat is in foster care, Maya's brother Alfie died when she was younger. This has made Maya's mum very protective of where Maya goes and whether things are dangerous or not.

This is really annoying for Maya as she enjoys surfing but isn't allowed down to the beach on her own. When  Maya's family decide to adopt Cat, both their world's are turned upside down.

Cat seems to have lots of secrets and won't let anybody in. Maya and her family find it really hard to get into Cat's trust zone, but somehow they manage it after an incident involving Maya.

As I said before I loved this book and couldn't put it down! It is just incredible and I highly recommend it. I'm telling you now - add it to your must read list!
